083: Jordan Lee Dooley

1024 620 Thriving Beyond Belief

I got to spend an hour with one of my favorite people for this week’s episode of Thriving Beyond Belief: Jordan Lee Dooley! Wife, speaker, soon-to-be author (and fellow Enneagram 3), Jordan is sunshine personified. We take some time to talk about some themes in her upcoming book, Own Your Everyday.

It is refreshing to discuss contentment in a world that is shouting for us to find our purpose. We break down what true purpose is, that small, intentional steps make up the large leaps in our lives, and that although we are called to steward our lives well, it is okay to not be “hustling” 24/7 if it means we leave out the Lord in the process. Jordan so pointedly reminds us that knowing the Lord IS our calling. He is our purpose. We so often run around and try to seek out the “one thing” that we are called to, instead of seeing that the one thing we are called to is to be faithful. Let us not be deterred by the enemy to chase the hustle rather than walk with the Lord.

Jordan talks about the fact that doing what we are called to do is not limited to what we do professionally; we are called to love others well, we are called to be good stewards of the bodies we have been given, etc. When we finally understand that life is not lived to reach a particular pinnacle, but rather it is a beautiful journey, we experience true freedom! The journey is filled with the mundane path, which is the everyday that we are given the opportunity to be faithful with. The journey also includes places of wilderness, which is where we tend to learn the most. And the journey is filled with moments in the garden, which is where the Lord wants us to intentionally rest and spend time with him. These paths and places make up our life. Let us make the most of them.

There are so many wonderful pieces of advice and encouragement from Jordan in this episode that you will find yourself taking notes to take with you into your day. Here’s to owning our everyday!

  • Huge topic for women: “I am unworthy”….which then points to insecurity—-core lie
  • God wants us to THRIVE — we enter this space where we feel we are not deserving the best that God has for us! This leads to us not believing we can live above and beyond and not just exist! Its a balance between humility and confidence! He wants our lives to thrive.

Welcome with me today Valorie Burton on this week’s episode of Thriving Beyond Belief!

Valorie is a wife, mother, and writer. She became a writer out of a prayer for true purpose. Her mission is inspiring women through writing and speaking and now being a life coach.

We get to discuss Valorie’s new book “It’s About Time”, which is coming out April 30th. Her book encompasses subjects such as not wearing “busy” as a badge of honor on our lives but taking time to say no, and to only do the imperative. Valorie gives her testimony and how she has learned so much about the Lord through time. She speaks on how time issues were at the core of hardships in her life. Even now, we talk about creating margin and leaving space between obligations.

“God created us to be here for a purpose.” We are given unique, divine assignments based on the purpose He has given us individually. We can’t hear what that purpose is and implement it well if we are filling every minute of our time with noise. We speak on the fact that being present takes more effort, but it is far more fulfilling. We feel more relaxed and filled up, and that is where we will be able to meet God.

Some factors that have really ramped up in our culture today are pace, competition, and comparison. Instead of wanting to keep up with the other moms or coworkers, we need to ask ourselves what would be the more meaningful choice. Would you want to look back on time with your children and see yourself always on your phone? Or would you want to fill your time with things that aren’t directed towards the purpose God has placed on your life? We need to learn to let time go slowly sometimes. We need to get in a place where we are “okay with being a little bored”.

Valorie lays out some core vulnerabilities that keep us from making the wise decision in the heat of the moment. She speaks on approval addiction, perfectionism, and unrealistic optimism. But she also talks about grace for yourself and your loved ones. She gives personal testament about making peace with lost time. It begins with forgiveness and acceptance, which leads to gratitude towards future time. We may have not taken full advantage of today, but that doesn’t mean we can’t tomorrow.

This is such a timely episode and I hope you enjoy!

I am thrilled to have Julie Solomon on Thriving Beyond Belief today!

Julie currently lives in LA with her husband and son. She blogs and has a podcast that focuses on helping others gratitude, grow their business as influencers in the blog/podcast market.

The theme of the blog today is simply finding balance in the multi-faceted roles women have today. From finding our personal purpose in life to marriage to motherhood, Julie emphasizes the importance of meeting all of these pressures in our lives with gratitude. Gratitude in who the Lord is in our lives gives us the ability to thrive. God daily gives us everything we need, so we need to be wonderful stewards of His gifts and utilize them to our highest potential.

Julie speaks on how living with the mindset of abundance lets us live without fear. We learn to lean into the abundance of the Lord in every aspect of our lives, so that we are to find balance in being working mothers and wives. One way does this is by learning to create before consuming, which leads to seeking gratitude first instead of seeing what’s lacking in life. We take some time to discuss having the perspective of abundance rather than scarcity.

In this episode, we speak specifically on intentional practices in your life that lead to balance. This includes ways to truly connect with your children, how to carve out intentional time with your spouse, how to deal with anxiety, the importance of community, and how to carve out time in your schedule for yourself.

We end with Julie talking through how to set good goals in your life and business. She speaks on truly knowing your “why”, which helps steer every other decision you need to make, in regards to your purpose.

I hope today’s episode encourages, uplifts, and challenges you today!
