078: Melanie Dale

1024 548 Thriving Beyond Belief

Today I am thrilled to have Melanie Dale on the podcast with me today!

Melanie’s life has been anything but what she expected- leading her to a ministry opportunity she never would have imagined for herself. Thus, her first book and website are entitled “Unexpected”. Melanie pictured her life going as most of us do- getting married, having children, etc. But after a battle with infertility, Melanie realized the Lord had more in store for her life than she knew.

We discuss major issues today that are all separate but all connected at the same time- marriage, intimacy, infertility, and parenting to name a few. Melanie discusses how her new saying is sur-thriving. She believes that life is never going to get to a place where everything is perfect, so we need to learn to thrive while we survive!

We really tackle the difficult issue of not being able to bear children, and what avenues come from that in people’s lives. One of Melanie’s books was written intentionally in the midst of a storm in her life, so that she could claim the goodness of the Lord in the middle of the unknown. So often, we see people who discuss their issues after they have seen redemption in their lives. But we sometimes need to know what to do and what to pray in the middle of an issue where we do not know the outcome. Melanie’s sincerity, vibrancy, and authenticity are truly refreshing in a world that tries so much to cover up failures and hardships.

Melanie gives some great advice on intentionality in marriage, how to build authentic friendships with other women in a similar life stage, how to balance the many hats most of us are wearing, and how to do it all with originality and a little humor!

I am so thankful to have spent today’s episode of Thriving Beyond Belief with Melanie, and I hope you are able to face the unexpected with ferocity, vulnerability, and to be able to laugh as you go.

Becky Herrick joins me on this episode of Thriving Beyond Belief and I could not be more excited!

A wife, a mother of triplets, and a full-time recruiter are just a few roles Becky plays in her life. She balances all of these things as well as ministering, speaking, and writing when she can.

Becky’s story is one of choosing joy in the midst of tragedies that have happened in her story. She describes miracles that happened along the way as well, seeing the hand of God throughout the times of sorrow.

We talk about walking through tragedy, how to cope and lean on the Lord in those times, and how to do normal life in the midst of the struggle.

Becky talks about her and her husband’s fertility journey that led to triplets as well as walking through all that comes with the loss of a child.
She discusses in-depth walking in guilt and learning that guilt is not from the Lord. It was a long road of handing the burdens of her loss over to the Lord and investing in counseling and community for healing.

Through the suffering, you see God’s grace through it, showing you what life is truly about. Becky talks about the freedom that always comes with facing the struggle and tackling it rather than running from it.

In the moments of the desperation for the Lord, the beauty of the Lord truly shines in only a way that can be seen after loss or abuse or trials, etc. It is the choice of choosing to go through the process and knowing the situation in itself isn’t good, but what can come from it can be good.

Becky encourages us all to be better, not bitter. She is so honest with her story and I hope you all have tissues handy when you listen. It will be an episode you’ll forever be impacted by.

014: Amber Massey

1024 683 Thriving Beyond Belief

Today on the TBB podcast my guest is Amber Massey.  I have known Amber for about seven years and met she and her husband before they had any of their darling kids! Amber has a strong walk with the Lord, is married to Jordan, and together they have 4 kids (all under the age of 4 years old). I am so inspired by her story.

Amber started a blog called PB&J Babes soon after she got married.  Over the years her blog has grown and inspired so many. She shares personal stories about marriage, infertility, miscarriage, and thru her blog has become transparent and vulnerable to her readers about real life!

In our interview, Amber shares with me how she has learned to open up, be vulnerable, and stop being fearful of having to be perfect. We talk about thriving and that when she feels overwhelmed with her everyday life, she is encouraged and uplifted by the comments readers leave on her blog. Some advice Amber gives her readers is that finding an outlet to talk to others is one of the best ways to stay encouraged, and also to become an encourager to those around you.

On The Massey Spot check out the amazing gift guides for Christmas she just posted on her blog!  Her guides include one for women, one for your guy, and several for the kids; I’ve included the links here at The Ultimate Christmas Gift Guide. Pop on over to check them out!

Actually, there are so many 2017 Christmas Gifts Guides out there,  I’ve included a few from some of our previous guests, Lauren Scruggs Kennedy and Jamie Ivey. You can find Lauren’s at Lauren Scruggs Kennedy and Jamie Ivey Gift Guide 2017  for Jaime’s!

Don’t forget to listen to last week’s episode with Mona Corwin at Balanced MomLife for some guidance and wisdom for moms. We also talk about marriage! Don’t miss it!

Here’s my interview with Amber Massey.
