REPLAY: Louie Giglio

1024 722 Thriving Beyond Belief

As you know, I’ve been doing some replays these last couple weeks, and I couldn’t help but rerun my episode with Louie Giglio for this week. And so I’m super excited for you guys to either tune into this for the first time or maybe re-listen to everything he talked about in his recent episode. We spent some time discussing Louie’s new book, Not Forsaken, and we speak on the freedom that comes with finding our identity and being sons or daughters of the perfect father. The relationship of father and child is one that is vastly important in life, so I can’t wait for you to tune into this week’s replay!

Fatherhood. It’s an ever-growing issue of importance in our culture today. And who better to speak about that with than Louie Giglio? He is my guest on today’s episode of Thriving Beyond Belief!

Louie is a well known pastor of Passion City Church in Atlanta and is the founder of Passion, a conference that is specifically geared toward 18-25 year olds who are setting up life for themselves for the first time. This conference is to help those in this season put Christ at the center of their lives and turn their focus on what is eternal rather than what is temporary. Louie is also a husband to his beautiful wife, Shelley, a speaker and an author.

We spend our time today talking specifically about the subject of Louie’s new book, Not Forsaken- fatherhood. We speak on the freedom that comes with finding our identity in being sons and daughters of the Perfect Father. This is a complicated subject, as we often project characteristics of our earthly fathers onto our Heavenly Father. That could be that He is absent, angry, distant, apathetic, and the list goes on. Louie talks about us beginning to see that those characteristics don’t exist in Heaven. He was Father first, which means He is perfect in fatherhood. The fall led to a broken view of what fatherhood needs to be.

We discuss the fact that the relationship of father and child is one that is vastly important to our life. It is one of the relationships on earth that effects us in such drastic ways. Our souls long for this relationship to feel whole.

Louie shares with us some amazing Scripture and wisdom on how to restore the relationship with our eternal Father, even when our earthly relationship may have  never been a positive one. Louie shares so vulnerably about his own father, the struggles in their own relationship, and how it led to remind him that nothing here is how it should be. Our souls are longing for the day when all will be restored.

We even speak some on mental health and how important it is to address any issues going on, the power of counseling, and the significance of authenticity.

What a blessing this episode is to me and I hope it is the same for you. May there be peace that comes to you after this episode!

059: LIVE Thriving Beyond Belief Podcast Event with Cheryl Scruggs and her daughters Lauren Scruggs Kennedy & Brittany Scruggs Morgan

1024 684 Thriving Beyond Belief

I am extremely excited for this Thriving Beyond Belief episode because it is the taping of our Thriving Beyond Belief live podcast event from Oct 18th! It was such an amazing night and we are so thankful for everyone who was able to come out. For those who couldn’t make it, we wanted to bring the entire event to you in your living room, kitchen, car or wherever you listen to podcasts!

We had such a fun time the other night, and that was exactly what the night was for: to have fun and give some tidbits of wisdom about how to THRIVE in your life.

On this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking to the room about what THRIVING truly is. I break down my story and all that the Lord has taught me. We talk salvation, marriage, redemption, love, and healing. With five points spelling out Thrive, I use the word to speak on what is needed for a life that is chasing after Jesus and making him known in every area of your life.

Then I interviewed my two sweet daughters, Brittany Scruggs Morgan and Lauren Scruggs Kennedy, and then one of my dear friends, Brenda Bogart interviewed my daughters and me! We talked about so many things that I can’t count them all!

We experience so many different distractions and forces in our lives today, that we have to be disciplined and conscious of making the Lord a priority in our lives. We must take captive our lives and not let them get swept up in the current of this world. We must strive to daily make choices that lead us closer to the Lord.

I am so excited and humbled to be able to share this wonderful night with you, and I pray this episode brings you joy, insight, and a new perspective of Jesus. I can’t wait for you to hear! Enjoy!

050: Ed Tandy McGlasson

1024 811 Thriving Beyond Belief

I am so excited to have Ed Tandy McGlasson on Thriving Beyond Belief today!

We talk about Ed’s namesake and about what he placed his identity in as a male in western culture. After a football injury, Ed questioned his identity. When Ed experienced a spiritual healing after a spiritual conversation, his journey with the Lord began. He was overwhelmed with the Gospel and how it radically changes lives. What occurred then was a journey with the Lord that leads to his ministry today. Ed wrote the book that we focus mainly on today, “The Difference A Father Makes”, and has spent his life talking with others about what the lack of a Godly father can do in your life, but how the Lord coming into your life can give you a holy identity and an eternal purpose. He also leads Blessing of the Father Ministries.

He broke the cycle of the lack of fatherly wisdom after he accepted the Lord by blessing his daughter’s lives through pointing them back to Jesus.

Ed describes that the words spoken over young men by their fathers shape how those young men see themselves. Those young men grow up and have children and try to find their identity in fatherhood, which drives their sons to performance because of that pressure put on them. This then leads into a unhealthy cycle of hurt boys becoming hurt men.

We talk about how at the root of each of us is the question if we are seen and loved, and how parents can show that love and how the Lord also sees and loves each of us unconditionally.

Ed speaks to those that have never had a Godly example in their lives, are divorced, or have a hard relationship with their father and gives wisdom and hope through scripture for who these people are in Christ. “The Lord chooses us so that He can adopt us as sons and daughters.”

We also speak on the importance of fathers in the lives of their daughters. Ed encourages us women to not let our identity lie in who our father or husband is. We were created to thrive! But too often we seek our identity in other things when we don’t have an example of a Godly father. We must fully put who we are in our Heavenly Father. When we see Jesus as “enough”, we will then teach our children that Jesus is enough for them as well.

This is an episode for everyone, and a topic I know is important in our society today. Please listen and be refreshed and encouraged.
