065: Donna Pisani

681 1024 Thriving Beyond Belief

Welcome to this week’s episode of Thriving Beyond Belief! Today, I have Donna Pisani on and I can’t wait for you to hear all that she has to share!

Donna lives with her family in the heart of Washington D.C. and has written a book, The Power of Not Yet. She has an incredible story and shares it with us today of how the Lord radically met her in the middle of her life and fulfilled the love she was so desperately looking for.

Donna shares that she truly knows what thriving is because she knows what not thriving feels like. She talks about the difference between going to church and having a true and intimate relationship with Jesus. She is so encouraging when discussing that her passion is for young women to truly get who Christ can be in this life. There is so much to discover about who the Lord is and what He is doing, but we so often miss out on knowing His love and grace because we are so task oriented, fixated on behavior modification. That was never what the Lord intended our relationship with Him to be!

We talk about the power of vulnerability and how that it is directly linked with thriving. Donna discusses that perfection, for her, is somewhat having control over a situation. But as long as we as humans are involved in a situation, it will never be perfect! Perfection is a story of the Lord’s redemption in our lives. God does not long for perfection, but for sanctification.

Speaking on Donna’s book, The Power of Not Yet, is so fascinating about the fact that our lives with the Lord are ever changing. We are hit with circumstances in our lives that we couldn’t prepare for, but how we process and move forward means more than the end result sometimes. She writes on how the Lord is telling us “not yet” in different capacities, and what we can learn in the process of our waiting.

With her book, we also talk about identifying fear rather than running from it, how to begin digging into Scripture, and the power of the process.

“Whatever you are walking through is developing you for leadership and influence.” This podcast went by so fast and there is so much wisdom within it. I hope you take some time to listen today!

064: Sharon Hodde Miller

1024 696 Thriving Beyond Belief
Today I have Sharon H. Miller on Thriving Beyond Belief, and it’s such an amazing interview! Not only has Sharon’s husband and their family planted a church this year, but Sharon has written a book, Free of Me, speaks at their church, and she speaks around the country as well!

Sharon speaks on the inspiration behind her book and what has led her to thrive in her life. She speaks on insecurity, the idolatry of ministry, and approval of others that brought her to seek Jesus and make Him the focal point of her life instead of herself.

We truly dig deep into what real insecurity is and what the only solution for this epidemic in our culture is: the Gospel. We also discuss moving from focus on self to dependency on the Lord.

Later on in the episode, we discuss the importance of mentorship, and what those generations ahead of us can truly teach us. They can give us hope to keep running the good race.

One of my favorite parts of this talk was our talk on cynicism in our culture today, even in the church. We discuss the elevation of humanity in these current times and how that leads to an elevation of pride, belief that humans are inherently good, and thus we make less of Jesus. It is an amazing discussion on the balance of the fact that we are beautiful creations of the Lord and that we are also broken people without Christ. Scripture is a good tool that keeps us balanced in who we are in Jesus.

This is such an amazing and insightful episode that will bring you wisdom just from listening. I hope you enjoy this time with Sharon!

063: Kathie Lee Gifford

1024 683 Thriving Beyond Belief

I am so excited to have Kathie Lee Gifford back with me on Thriving Beyond Belief! This episode, we focus on Kathie’s new book, The Gift that I can Give, that was written for children. With the holidays around the corner, this would be a perfect gift for Christmas. With the “me” culture surrounding us, this book is a breath of fresh air that focuses on seeing and doing for others, just as Christ leads us.

Kathie’s new book focuses on the story of David and Goliath, and particularly David’s stone. She shares something special about what that stone represented in David’s life and how we each have a “stone” in our lives.

We spend some time talking about changing our perspective from being entitled to being so thankful. There is far richer joy from living a Christ-centered life than having ourselves at the center. We change the conversation from feeling pressure to be perfect to finding freedom in Jesus to be vulnerable and authentic.

Fear is something that is all around us today and we talk about how to not be fearful of the world, but run to our Savior and be in awe of His power to take anything and make is beautiful. There is nothing to fear when our God can redeem anything.

We finish this amazing time together really focusing on what we can do for our children that will develop them into Jesus-loving individuals.

Kathie has some fun projects just around the corner, and I can’t wait for you to hear about them, along with the rest of the episode. Enjoy!
